Llangollen Silver Band
About us – ‘Music at the heart of the community’
Welcome to the official website of Llangollen Silver Band. Formed in 1904, the band has been an integral part of the local community for well over a century. Nestled in the glorious Dee Valley in North East Wales, Llangollen is a town famous for its musical reputation, being home of renowned annual events such as the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, Fringe Festival, and many others.
In 2010, the band took on the ambitious project to rebuild on the site of our former WW1 army hut on Parade Street and replace it with a modern band room that could better cater for our needs. In the last few years we have also taken on redeveloping an ‘annex’ to the new build and now have a facility to be proud of.
Today, our friendly organisation consists of 3 bands that cater to a wide range of abilities and ages. The band is incredibly proud to have offered free musical instruments, tuition and sheet music to numerous youngsters for more than 40 years. A dedicated team of talented senior band players volunteer their time and expertise to provide support to members of our Training and Youth Bands.
If you or your child is interested in learning a brass instrument then please see our contact information.
The Senior Band is open to players of any age who can play brass or percussion instruments to a competent standard. The band takes on a wide variety of functions throughout the year, including: events, parades, garden fetes, festivals, church services, weddings, concerts and outdoor displays.
We also arrange 2 popular annual events of our own: The Band Christmas Gala and Picnic in the Garden at Plas Newydd Llangollen during the summer.
The Senior Band practice in the band room on Monday evenings from 7pm – 9pm.
The Youth Band is for young people between the ages of twelve and nineteen who have developed into competent players. Many members of our Youth Band go on to play for the Senior Band when ready.
The Youth Band regularly compete at national contests, and have won a range of prestigious competitions such as the North Wales Brass Band Association’s Youth Band Contest. Youth band members also compete in a wide range of contests for soloists and various sized ensembles.
The Youth Band also take on a range of concerts throughout the year and perform alongside our other bands at the Christmas Gala and Picnic in the Garden events.
The Youth Band practice at the band room on Friday evenings from 7pm – 8.30pm.
The Training Band is for those just setting out on their musical journey and is focused on developing the skills of children from seven years old. However, a number of adult learners have also began learning to play a brass instrument with us over the years with great success.
Many members of our Training Band will move on to either the Youth and/or Senior Bands when ready.
The Training Band practice at the band room on Friday evenings from 6 – 7pm.
